Kenmore dishwashers are sold with a wide variety of available features, including stainless steel or plastic tubs, adjustable racks, multiple door positions, self-cleaning filter, custom door panels, temperature, time and water level sensors, sanitizing wash and an electronic display panel. However, even the most sophisticated dishwasher may require some troubleshooting from time to time, and it may even need to be reset to restore the dishwasher to proper function.
Check the power cord on the Kenmore dishwasher and verify that it is plugged in if the dishwasher is not working. Replace or restart the fuse or circuit breaker as necessary.
Turn on the water valve, located under the sink, if the dishwasher is not filling with water. Disconnect the water hose and clean out any sediment from the hose inlet screen. Reconnect the hose and make sure the hose is straight and not trapped or bent.
Load the dishwasher so that a small space remains between every dish and glass if there is noise or rattling during washing. Push on the spray arms to make sure they can rotate freely. Look in the bottom of the tub and clean away any utensils or food debris that may be clogging the grinder or filter.
Pour only automatic dishwasher detergent into the dispenser and use only the recommended amount if there is oversudsing or leaking. Clean up any detergent spills, especially rinse aid detergent.
Heat the water that enters the dishwasher by running the hot water at the sink if the dishwasher seems to take a long time to finish or there is still food residue on items after the cycle is complete. Use the recommended detergent amount for every load of dishes.
Clean the air gap on the kitchen sink if there is water left in the tub. Lift up the lid on the air gap and clean the hoses. Clear the kitchen drain by running the garbage disposal. Disconnect and clean out the inlet screen on the drain hose. Straighten out the hose after reconnecting.
Reset the dishwasher after performing the necessary troubleshooting method by turning off the Kenmore dishwasher. Disconnect the dishwasher from the power and wait several minutes. Reconnect the power and choose a new wash cycle and press or select "Start" to begin.
