Sears sells a wide range of products manufactured by several companies. Occasionally a product sold by Sears is defective in some way. Although Sears does not offer rebate or repair, it does list these recalls so that consumers may contact the manufacturer for service. Sears' current recall list includes several appliances recalled for various safety reasons.
Liebherr Build-In Refrigerator
On March 3, 2011 Liebherr-Hausegeraete recalled 5,702 built-in, 30-inch-wide bottom freezer refrigerators due to a risk of injury caused by the doors on these refrigerators detaching. Units with model numbers that begin with C or CI followed by 1600, 1601, 1650, 1651, or 1700, which were sold nationwide from February 2004 through January 2011, are included in this recall. Consumers with the above models numbers should contact Libherr to schedule repair of the product.
GE Profile and GE Monogram Dishwashers
GE recalled approximately 174,000 of their Profile and Monogram dishwashers on October 26, 2010 because water condensation from the dishwasher may drip into the control panel, which may cause a short in the circuitry. This may result in an overheated connector which poses a fire hazard. Consumers are advised to stop using dishwashers immediately if the model number begins with PDW followed by 9200J, 9280J, 9800J, 9880J or DW9700J or your GE Monogram dishwasher model number begins with ZBD followed by 6800K00, 6800K01, 6800K03, 6800K10, 6880K00, 6880K01, 6880K03, 6880K10, 6890K00, 6890K01, 6890K03, 6890K10, 0700K00, 0700K01, 0700K03, 0700K10, 0710K00, 0710K01, 0710K03, or 0710K10.
GE Front Load Washing Machine
On June 10, 2010 GE announced the recall of about 181,000 of its front-load washing machines due to the potential fire and shock hazards caused by a wire breaking inside the unit. The recall is for GE front-load machines with the model numbers beginning with WBVH5. If you've purchased one of these washers, stop using it immediately, unplug it from its power source and contact GE for repair.
Maytag recalled about 1.7 million dishwashers on June 3, 2010, due to a fire hazard caused by an electrical problem in the heating element. The recall includes several Maytag brands with serial numbers starting with NW39 through NW52 and NY01 through NY19. Consumers should stop using the dishwashers and contact Maytag to confirm that the unit is included in the recall.
Thermador Built-In Ovens
On January 21, 2010 a previous recall by BSH Home Appliances Corp. was expanded from 42,000 Thermador built-in ovens recalled in June 2007 to include about 37,000 additional units. The ovens are reported to overheat in self-cleaning mode because of a gap in the insulation. This overheating poses a fire hazard. Ovens with model numbers C272B, C302B, SEC272, SEC302, SECD272 and SECD302 and serial numbers FD8403 through FD8701 are included in the expanded recall. Consumers with these models should contact Thermador for repair.
