Verify that the York air conditioner is firmly plugged into a working power supply if the unit is not operating. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse if necessary.
Turn off and unplug the air conditioner if it is not cooling well or functioning as expected. Open the front access panel and remove the filter from the unit. Clean with water and mild detergent and rinse well. Let the filter dry completely before restoring it in the unit with the "air flow" arrow on the filter facing the same direction as the air flow in the air conditioner.
Clean the condensate drain if it is wet on the ground around the air conditioner. Look for possible blockages to the drain and clean with water and a household cleaner if mold or fungus is evident. Rinse well with water and allow the unit to dry before restoring power.
Vacuum the condenser coils if there is debris or frost on the coils. Use caution to not damage the coil fins. Do not knock the ice off the coil surface, as this can cause damage to the unit. Leave the air conditioner turned off, and allow the ice to melt before cleaning the coils.
Move items that may be blocking the air flow around the air conditioner if the unit is operating excessively or not cooling well. Look at the return air grilles inside the home and move items such as furniture or toys that may be blocking the grilles.
