Select Comfort makes the Sleep Number Bed, a mattress with air chambers that allow each sleeper to individually set the firmness of the bed by inflating or deflating his or her air chamber. The second part of the Sleep Number Bed is a plastic platform that takes the place of a box spring, allowing the bed to fit in a standard frame. The bed components are lightweight, making them easier to move than a conventional mattress and box springs.
Unplug the air pump, also known as the Firmness Control System, from the wall, then disconnect it from the mattress. Cap the mattress with the plastic cap sold with the mattress. If you can't find the cap, you can purchase one from Select Comfort.
Pack the Firmness Control System in a cardboard box. Stuff paper around it so it doesn't slide around in the box.
Slide the mattress into a mattress box or vinyl mattress wrapping. You can buy these boxes or wrappers from moving companies.
Remove the cover from the Sleep Number foundation. Fold this and pack away.
Disassemble the foundation. The plastic components snap apart. Place the pins and small hardware in a plastic bag. Pack the components in a box.
