Things You'll Need
Wiring to match the amps of the circuit you are installing on
Old construction conduit box for switch
Wire cutter and stripper
Turn off the electricity before starting
Wiring your garbage disposal is needed so that you have control over turning it on and off. Wiring is simple and straightforward for a switch. It can be completed in about an hour. You will be saving money by doing it yourself instead of hiring an electrician.
Turn off the main electricity at the breaker.
Cut the drywall to the size of the switch conduit box in the area you want it installed.
Bring your wiring from the disposal to the hollowed out switch area in the wall.
Run another wire from the power source to the switch area.
Bring these two wires through the conduit box. Install the conduit box by pushing it into the wall. Screw it tight.
Strip both wires back 1 inch.
Wire in the switch with the black wires only. The black wire from the power source will go on the bottom screw. The black wire from the disposal will go on the top screw. The bare copper wire will screw onto the green screw on the switch.
Cap together the white wires.
Screw the switch in and place a faceplate over the switch. Turn on the electricity and test your installation.
