Ceiling cracks can be unsightly and annoying, but repairing them is not as difficult as it might seem. Fixing ceiling cracks in either plaster or drywall can easily be done with just a few simple household tools and easy to follow instructions.

Locate ceiling crack that needs to be repaired. Determine whether the area needing the repair is plaster or sheet rock.

Remove any debris that is loose around the section in need of repair. Make sure to wear safety glasses through all the steps.

Apply the self-adhesive mesh drywall tape directly over the crack without overlapping any strips.

Add about 1-cup of premixed drywall compound to the mud pan and trowel evenly over tape, pressing the mud through the mesh and smoothing the surface.

Allow to dry completely.

Sand lightly and texture the ceiling patch area.

Paint ceiling with touch up paint or paint the entire ceiling.
