Peepholes allow you to look through your door to see who is ringing or knocking on the other side before opening the door. Over time, the glass of the viewing lens becomes cracked and damaged due to the weather. Most peepholes cannot be repaired when damaged and need to be replaced to make them useful again. Replacing the peephole is a simple process that with the right tools and directions does not require any professional help.
Remove the old peephole. Use the screwdriver from the inside of the door to unscrew it. Have an assistant outside the door hold the lens of the peephole to keep it from moving as you unscrew the inside portion. When you unscrew the inside piece of the peephole, you can simply pull out the lens from the outside.
Clean the hole where the peephole was located. Blow through one end of the peephole to remove any dust or debris that is stuck inside.
Push the new peephole lens through the outside of the door. Have an assistant hold the new lens in place from the outside.
Screw in the inside piece of the peephole from the inside part of the door. Use the screwdriver to tighten the peephole and lock it securely in place.
