Many residential refrigerator/freezer combination appliance units come with an alarm feature. The freezer alarm will sound when the temperature rises to a temperature in which food will not stay frozen or if the door is left open or ajar for too long. Disabling the alarm to prevent it from sounding may be necessary when defrosting the unit or if a faulty alarm sounds randomly.
Open the freezer door. Locate the alarm switch. Depending on the manufacturer and model, the alarm switch may be located at the bottom right on the freezer door jamb or behind or under the ice maker. Pull the icemaker facade panel off, if necessary, to gain access to the alarm.
Turn the freezer alarm switch to the "Off" position. This might be an actual toggle switch or button or knob. it might also be labeled "|" and "O"; place it in the "O" position.
Close the freezer door or replace the icemaker facade panel, then close the door. If you wish to reactive the alarm feature, simply turn the alarm switch to "On" or "|".
