How to Clean Tile Grout With Common Household Ingredients

If you have tile in your home, you may have noticed that the grout in between the tiles tends to attract dirt and dust over time. Using store-bought cleaners can be expensive, and some of these products contain harsh chemicals that can irritate skin and airways. You can make your own gentle grout cleaner out of common, inexpensive household ingredients. This cleaner will remove dirt, soap scum, dust and buildup from cosmetic products.

Spills often run down into the grout between tiles.

Step 1

Place a funnel into a clean, empty spray bottle.

Step 2

Pour the white vinegar, ammonia and baking soda into the bottle, through the funnel.

Step 3

Add 7 cups of water.

Step 4

Reattach the spray nozzle and shake the bottle to mix the ingredients.

Step 5

Spray the mixture directly onto the grout and let it sit for five minutes before wiping clean with a sponge.
