When you make hard boiled eggs on your stove top, it is common to accidentally cook the eggs too long or not cook them long enough. This can cause the eggs to smell like sulfur or to be too runny. However, if you follow a few guidelines, you can make perfect hard-boiled eggs on a stove top that are properly cooked throughout and are not green or smelling like sulfur.
Fill a pot three-quarters full of water, and place the filled pot onto a stove top.
Place 1 dozen eggs into the pot, then heat the pot on high heat until it begins to boil. Allow the pot to remain on the heat until the water displays a rolling boil.
Place a pot holder flat onto a table or countertop.
Cover the pot with a lid, and remove it from the heat. Place the covered pot onto the pot holder. This will prevent heat from escaping by insulating the bottom of the pot.
Allow the pot to remain undisturbed for 20 minutes. Transfer the eggs into a colander using a large spoon, and rinse them well with cold water for 3 minutes.
