How to Clean My Dishwasher With CLR

CLR is a cleaning product manufactured by Jelmar, formulated to remove calcium, lime and rust deposits from most areas in your home. If calcium and rust build-up in a dishwasher, it can prevent the dishwasher from properly cleaning your dishes. If you live in an area with hard water, CLR should be used every four to six weeks. If you live in an area with normal water, use CLR every three months. If you have a water softener or conditioner, CLR should be used every six months.

Step 1

Remove all dishes from the dishwasher. Never run CLR through a cleaning cycle with dishes.

Step 2

Turn the dishwasher to a regular cleaning cycle. Do not add any soap. Start the cycle.

Step 3

Open the dishwasher door after 2 or 3 minutes and look at the bottom of the dishwasher. If it is filled approximately half of the way with water, add 1/2 cup of CLR to the water. If it is not filled that far yet, shut the door and check on the water level in another minute. Allow the cycle to continue as normal once the CLR has been added.

Step 4

Run the dishwasher cycle a second time. This time, do not add any soap or CLR. This will help ensure all of the CLR has been rinsed from the dishwasher.
