A garage-door opener allows you to open the garage door with the push of a button. Most garage door openers have two remote transmitters. If you require an additional transmitter, you must program it to work with your garage-door opener. Early garage-door openers required you to set codes on the remote transmitters with a manual interface. To program a remote transmitter on a newer garage-door opener, you only need to push a few buttons. You can also revoke access to all existing transmitters in case of accidental loss or theft.
Locate the garage-door opener on the ceiling in the garage. Move your vehicle if necessary. You may need a small stool to reach the control panel.
Press the "learn" button on the garage-door opener. If a the opener has a learn indicator light, it will confirm the unit is in learning mode.
Press and hold the button on the new remote transmitter until the garage-door opener lights flash.
Release the button on the remote transmitter. Test the transmitter to make sure it operates the garage-door opener.
Repeat step 2 though 4 for any additional remote transmitters you want to program.
