Hard water coming out of shower pipes can leave both stains and a film on your shower curtain. Scrubbing the shower curtain or using a bathroom cleaner may not remove all hard water stains, and the wrong cleaner could even cause further damage to the curtain. A household cleaner mixed with a standard cleaning agent lifts these types of stains safely from the curtain without causing any damage. This cleaning method also deodorizes a shower curtain.
Remove the shower curtain from the curtain rod. The exact method for doing so varies per curtain and rod.
Fill a bath tub or large enough container/bucket with 1 cup bleach-free liquid laundry detergent and 1 cup undiluted white vinegar. Place the shower curtain into the tub or container. Fill the rest of the tub/container with lukewarm water.
Soak the shower curtain for approximately one hour.
Place the shower curtain inside an empty washing machine.
Pour 1 cup of bleach-free laundry detergent and 1 cup undiluted white vinegar into the machine.
Run one gentle "cool" laundry cycle.
Hang the shower curtain either outside or in a well-ventilated room. Be sure the curtain is completely dry before you hang it again.
