How to Remove Sweat Stains From a Baseball Hat

As your head sweats from activity or sun exposure, the sweat soils your baseball hat's band, fabric and bill. The sweat leaves noticeable stains that are unattractive and smelly. Over time, the stains increase in size and eventually cover the entire surface. You don't have to throw away your baseball hats or suffer with the stains and smells. You can remove sweat stains from your baseball hats at home using solutions that won't damage the hat's fabric and band.

Use a Lemon Mixture

Step 1

Mix 1 cup of lemon juice and 1 cup of warm water in a pot. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry. Stir the mixture with a spoon.

Step 2

Use a sink stopper to plug your kitchen or bathroom sink. Place your baseball hat in the sink and pour the lemon mixture over the sweat stains.

Step 3

Let the mixture sit for four hours.

Step 4

Unplug the sink and rinse your baseball hat thoroughly with warm water. Apply 1 tbsp. of mild dishwashing detergent to a soft cloth or towel. Wet the cloth or towel with warm water.

Step 5

Blot your baseball hat gently with the cloth or rag as you move the hat under the water to remove any remaining dirt from your hat.

Step 6

Rinse your hat thoroughly once it is dirt-free.

Step 7

Place your hat in a large towel and press down to remove as much water as possible. Let your hat air dry over a coffee can or other head-shaped object.

Use a Baking Soda Mixture

Step 8

Mix 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of warm water in a pot. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry. Use a spoon to stir the mixture into a paste.

Step 9

Place your baseball hat in a sink. Use a toothbrush to apply the paste to the sweat stains. Scrub the stains gently with the toothbrush then apply 1 tsp. of white vinegar to each sweat stain. Continue scrubbing the stains until they are gone.

Step 10

Rinse your baseball hat with warm water. Apply 1 tbsp. of mild dishwashing detergent to a soft cloth or towel. Wet the cloth or towel with warm water. Blot your baseball hat gently with the cloth or rag as you move the hat under the water to remove any dirt remaining dirt from your hat.

Step 11

Rinse your hat thoroughly once it is dirt-free.

Step 12

Place your hat in a large towel and press down to remove as much water as possible from your hat. Let your hat air dry over a coffee can or other head- shaped object.
