Washing machines are used on a regular basis to clean soiled clothes and other items. Over time, the grime and odor from the dirty clothes build up in the washing machine. It is important to keep the machine clean, and you can do so with household items--baking soda and vinegar. Using these ingredients and simply running two cycles, you can thoroughly clean your washing machine.
Set the empty washing machine temperature to hot and start a cycle. Allow the hot water to fill to the highest level.
Add the 3 cups of white vinegar (or 2 cups of lemon juice) and 1/2 cup of baking soda to the hot water as the machine starts to agitate it.
Wait for the washing machine to finish the cycle.
Wipe out the machine with a soft cloth to remove any residue that might have been loosened.
Run a complete cold cycle without adding anything to the water. Wipe out the machine with a soft cloth.
