Making an Ice Pack
To make an ice gel pack without alcohol you need one 10- to 12-oz. bottle of liquid dish soap and 2-quart sized zipper freezer bags. Pour the entire bottle of dish liquid into a zipper bag. Make sure the bag is sealed well. Place the sealed bag inside another freezer bag with the zipper side down and seal the second bag. Put the pack in the freezer and allow it to freeze for several hours before using. Consider pouring the dish soap into a hot water bottle instead of a zipper bag.
Using Your Homemade Ice Pack
Remove the ice pack from the freezer and then gently squeeze the bag in your hands to soften the gel. Wrap the bag in a hand towel or wash cloth to prevent frost bite on sensitive skin. Place the ice pack on bumps, bruises and sore muscles to reduce swelling and inflammation. Use your homemade gel pack for other daily needs as well, like keeping lunches cold, going on picnics or even just to cool down on a hot day.
