How to Clean Bathroom Sink Overflow Drains

Make sure overflow drains, such as those found on bathroom sinks, continue to work properly by cleaning them from time to time. Cleaning an overflow drain on a sink is easy to do with a drain stick. A simple solution of baking soda and vinegar will flush out any remaining residue in the overflow drain.

Step 1

Insert one end of the drain stick into the hole for the overflow drain. Make sure to use the bristle end.

Step 2

Push the drain stick as far down the overflow drain as it will go.

Step 3

Twist the drain stick while pulling it out so it can collect debris stuck in the drain.

Step 4

Mix baking soda and vinegar in a small container.

Step 5

Place a small funnel into the overflow drain. Pour in the baking soda and vinegar solution.

Step 6

Let the solution sit until it stops fizzing.

Step 7

Pour boiling water down the funnel. The boiling water will wash out the baking soda and vinegar solution.
