The Rival roaster oven frees up your conventional oven for other purposes or can be used instead of a regular oven. Some models are equipped with buffet serving trays that can be used to keep food warm anywhere there is electricity available. Using a Rival roaster is basically the same as using a conventional oven. In most cases, cooking times are the same. Cleaning the oven is simple and easy, because most parts can be lifted out of the appliance and washed normally.
Wash and dry the roasting pan, roasting rack and buffet trays before the first use. This will remove any packaging dust on the appliance.
Assemble the roasting pan and rack into the roaster base. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees while empty. Allow the roaster to operate for 10 to 20 minutes after achieving temperature. This will burn off any smoke and odors from the manufacturing process.
Place the roasting pan in the appliance and preheat to the desired temperature. Add the roasting rack and the food to be cooked. Not all foods require the rack. Check the manual for your specific model to see which foods need the rack.
Place the lid on the roaster and cook the food according to the recipe directions. It is recommended that if you want crispier, browned skin on poultry that you do not add any liquids to the roaster until the last 30 minutes.
Turn the temperature control to "Off" at the end of the cooking time and unplug the roaster from the electrical outlet.
Use oven mitts or pot holders to remove the lid from the roaster as it will be very warm. Use pot holders to lift the food from inside the roaster and serve.
