Step 1

Begin circulating fresh air throughout the room. You will need to open all of the windows and set up a few oscillating fans. Replacing the bad air with good air is the best way to get rid of smoke odors.

Step 2

Fill an empty spray bottle with half vinegar and half water. This solution will eliminate smoke odor. Take the solution and spray it on any items in the room that are not made out of fabric. Wipe the items down. Then use the spray on the walls and windows. You can't completely get rid of the smoke odor in the air if you don't get rid of the smoke residue that is causing the odor.

Step 3

Rent a carpet shampooer if you don't have one of your own. Shampoo the carpets to get all of the cigarette odor that is trapped in the carpet fibers. That will stop new cigarette odor from entering the air.

Step 4

Open two or three boxes of baking soda and set them out in the room that contains the cigarette odor. Baking soda is well known for being able to absorb nasty odors. You will need to leave the boxes out for a few days before all of the cigarette odor is gone.

Step 5

Use an air purifier in the room that smells like smoke. This option will work but is best used only if you can't keep your windows open. This could be because of nasty weather or extreme outdoor temperatures. Fresh air is best, but there are some good machines that can purify the air that is already there.
