How to Bleach Your White Clothes

When white clothes are brand new they look sharp and crisp, but over time they can become yellowed and dingy. You can add chlorine bleach to your washing machine to brighten whites that have become dull. However, bleach can damage the fiber of your clothing if you do not use it properly. Knowing how to whiten your clothes with bleach can prevent your clothing from developing holes or altogether falling apart.

...
Mix bleach with water to dilute it.

Step 1

Set your washing machine to a regular wash cycle. Use a hot water setting because hot water helps dissolve bleach and detergent more quickly than cold.

Step 2

Add laundry detergent to the drum of your washing machine. When the detergent has dissolved completely and the water level is about 1/4 of the way full, add 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach for a top loader, or 1/2 cup liquid chlorine bleach for a front loader.

Step 3

Allow the bleach to dissolve into the water. When the water level is about halfway full, submerge your white clothing into the water.

Step 4

Wait for the washing machine to finish running through all the cycles. Turn the washing machine back on and run it through again with no soap or bleach.
