Instructions for LaJobi Cribs

Vanessa Tang

In 2006, LaJobi created a line of cribs sold exclusively for Graco. These models were recalled in April 2010 because of problems with the drop side unit, which posed a potential suffocation risk, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Protect your baby by correcting an affected LaJobi crib with a free, simple retrofit kit.

Affected wares were Graco-branded drop side cribs manufactured between December 2006 and May 2009. Since that time, there have been no further problems reported about these products. LaJobi has offered a free retrofit kit to anyone who owns an affected crib unit. The installation and assembly of the retrofit kit is the same for all cribs, except the Ashley and Hampton models.

Tip

Have a second person to help you manage heavy items or something unexpected occurs during the assembly.

Warning

There are separate retrofit kit assembly instructions for the Ashley and Hampton models. The instructions in this article are specifically for the Jason, Rachel, Kendal, Sarah, Lauren, Shannon and Tifton models.

Graco Drop Side Crib Retrofit Assembly Instructions

  1. Take inventory to ensure that all parts are present.

  2. Check the tracks and brackets to ensure there are no cracks or breaks in the plastic or metal. If any damage is found, call LaJobi Customer Service at 888-266-2848. They will provide a replacement part if necessary.

  3. Make sure the drop side is in the locked, upright position.

  4. Lay the crib down on its back so that the drop side is facing up.

  5. Unscrew the block breaks from the lower plastic track using a Phillips head screwdriver on both the left and right ends of the crib.

  6. Remove the two wood screws from the bottom of each lower locking mechanism on both the left and right ends of the crib. You should now have removed a total of four screws.

  7. Slide the mechanism down the plastic track and pull off the plastic track to remove them. This should be performed on both ends of the crib.

  8. Reattach the block breaks on the bottom two feet on the top of the crib.

  9. Raise the crib to a standing position. Lower the drop side.

  10. Make sure the top of the front rail does not come off the upper tracks while you are installing the brackets.

  11. Remove the Allen head bolts with an Allen wrench from the metal tabs of the mattress support on both the left and right sides of the crib next to the front rail. The bolts are located on the inner side of the drop side near the mattress support.

  12. Repeat for the other side. You will now use the six 5/8-inch Allen head bolts and six lock washers.

  13. Place the mattress in a height position suitable for your baby. The common location to begin with a baby is in the middle position.

  14. Carefully lift the front rail so that the small center hole on the bracket lines up with the mattress support-positioning hole.

  15. Insert a 5/8-inch Allen bolt through a lock washer into the metal holes of the bracket and into the metal mattress positioning hole. Tighten with the Allen wrench.

  16. Repeat for the other side.

  17. Kneel down on the left side of the front of the crib. Insert the 5/8-inch Allen head bolts through the lock washers and through the upper and metal holes on the metal bracket and tighten securely with the Allen wrench.

  18. Repeat for the other side. The three bolts should appear as a straight vertical line on both ends of the crib, for a total of six bolts.

  19. Discard both locking mechanisms and the four wood screws. For future use, keep the retrofit kit instructions with the crib's original instruction manual.

Completing the Drop Side Conversion with a Mattress Height Adjustment

  1. Move the mattress to your desired position.

  2. Take out the Allen head bolt from the metal tabs on the back left leg of the crib.

  3. Remove the Allen head bolt from the front left leg of the crib.

  4. Insert the Allen head bolt back into the positioning hole from where you previously removed the tab and tighten with the Allen wrench.

  5. Remove the Allen head bolt from the positioning hole that you are going to use. Place the metal tab over the desired height position and reattach the tab to the front leg using the Allen head bolt and Allen wrench. Repeat for the back leg. Repeat for the right side of the crib. Ensure that all bolts are tightened securely.
