The Pro 82 is an electric garage door opener manufactured by the Genie corporation. Like any other electronic device, the Pro 82 is susceptible to malfunction, particularly if the laser sensors on the device become blocked or damaged. The good news is that if your Pro 82 is on the fritz, you can perform a reset of the device and that will most likely solve any problems.

Resetting your garage door opener isn't difficult.

Step 1

Go to the Genie Pro 82 door operator unit in your garage and make sure that you have the garage remote in hand.

Step 2

Locate the Receiver Learn Code button on the back of the door opener unit. It is a small, unmarked black button near the protruding antenna wire on the back of the unit.

Step 3

Press the button. A radio signal indicator light will start blinking on the back of the unit.

Step 4

Point your garage remote at the unit and press the remote button three times. The system will grab the frequency and lock it in.

Step 5

Press the remote button one more time to open the garage door and verify that the frequency is set.
