The smells of the country remind us of home and comfort us all at the same time. The aroma of cinnamon brings a sense of warmth, and the scent of fresh berries found in a country store provide a feeling of refreshment. Combine those aromas with the sweet smell of citrus to revitalize your senses and remind you of a country store. Create your own mixture of these fragrances to linger throughout your home for a delicious aromatic treat.
Fill a 3- or 5-quart pot with water. Place pot on a stove top or electric burner. Place the temperature gauge on low to simmer.
Add 2 cinnamon sticks to the water. Any size cinnamon sticks will suffice; they can be found at your local market.
Measure 2 tablespoons of allspice and 2 tablespoons of juniper berries, and then add to the water.
Slice the navel orange in half. Squeeze the juice of half of the orange into the pot. Peel that same half with a peeler and drop the peel into the mix.
Add 10 to 12 drops of essential oil such as lime, orange, or lemongrass into the water. Stir to combine ingredients.
Place a lid on the pot for approximately 3 to 5 minutes to allow the mixture to steam. Remove lid.
Leave the pot on the stove on the lowest setting. Refill the pot with water as needed. Enjoy the aromatic scent throughout your home.
