How to Use Ammonia to Get Rid of Raccoons

Raccoons are beautiful animals. In the wild, they are of no bother to humans. But they have become comfortable and have adapted to living around humans. They can be found in suburban areas and can cause quite a disturbance -- digging through trash, eating pet food, damaging things and causing a lot of mess. Fortunately, some proven methods using ammonia will deter and get rid of these nuisances.

Step 1

Place several ammonia-soaked rags near the raccoon nest. Also, place the rags near any area you have seen the raccoons congregate. The odor of ammonia is offensive to raccoons.

Step 2

Position some ammonia-soaked rags near and around the suspected entrances of the raccoon's nest.

Step 3

Spray some ammonia with a spray bottle around the nest and any places the raccoons have been spotted.
