Vinegar and water is useful for cleaning laminate or vinyl floors, tile floors and carpets. The ration of water to vinegar will vary depending on the type of floor and is different for stain removal.
Vinegar Solution for Mopping
Mop laminate or vinyl floors with a mixture of 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar and 2 gallons hot water. Use 1 cup vinegar and 2 gallons water for tile floors. No rinsing is required.
Use a ratio of 1 part vinegar and 5 parts water for carpet steam cleaning. Pour the mixture into the carpet cleaner without carpet shampoo. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for using the carpet cleaner.
Spot Stain Removal
Spot stain removal, particularly on carpets, is best achieved by spraying undiluted vinegar directly on the stain and letting it soak for 20 minutes. Wipe and rub the spot with a dry cloth until the spot is removed. For persistent stains or deep carpet stains, pour enough vinegar onto the stain to completely saturate the stain. Allow the carpet to soak, rub the stain until the vinegar is absorbed, and reapply vinegar if the stain remains.
